Su nombre significa \u00abOjo del Mar\u00bb, por una antigua leyenda seg\u00fan la cual el lago estaba unido al mar por un pasadizo subterr\u00e1neo. La carretera hasta el lago est\u00e1 cerrada a los coches, as\u00ed que los visitantes recorren a pie o en carro de caballos los \u00faltimos kil\u00f3metros.
