Como muchos lagos de las Rocosas, debe su azul intenso a la harina de roca, un polvo fino molido por los glaciares y arrastrado por el deshielo. La vista desde el Rockpile, un mont\u00f3n de rocas al final del lago, apareci\u00f3 en el reverso del billete canadiense de veinte d\u00f3lares. Desde 2023 a la carretera del lago solo pueden subir autobuses lanzadera.
