Seg\u00fan la leyenda, en el a\u00f1o 628 dos pescadores sacaron del r\u00edo Sumida una peque\u00f1a estatua dorada de Kannon, la diosa de la misericordia, y el templo se construy\u00f3 para guardarla. Al pabell\u00f3n principal se llega por dos grandes puertas.
