El agua procede de la lluvia y la nieve que cayeron en la monta\u00f1a y que se filtraron durante muchos a\u00f1os por capas de roca volc\u00e1nica, que la limpian hasta dejarla cristalina. Los estanques forman parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad del Fujisan, inscrito como lugar sagrado y fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n art\u00edstica.
