Su arquitecto, Baldassare Longhena, a\u00fan no hab\u00eda cumplido los treinta cuando gan\u00f3 el concurso para dise\u00f1arla, y trabaj\u00f3 en ella el resto de su vida; se termin\u00f3 en 1687, cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de su muerte.
