El lago est\u00e1 junto a la Icefields Parkway, la carretera de monta\u00f1a entre Lake Louise y Jasper, y su color turquesa se debe al fino polvo de roca que arrastra el agua de deshielo de los glaciares. El monte Chephren se llam\u00f3 antes la Pir\u00e1mide Negra y luego recibi\u00f3 el nombre del fara\u00f3n que construy\u00f3 la segunda pir\u00e1mide de Guiza. En las Rocosas el oto\u00f1o es dorado y no rojo: los \u00e1lamos temblones y los alerces amarillean en septiembre.
