Los haida vivieron aqu\u00ed durante miles de a\u00f1os, y a finales del siglo XIX la aldea qued\u00f3 abandonada despu\u00e9s de que la viruela matara a la mayor\u00eda de sus habitantes. Sus postes funerarios y conmemorativos de cedro siguen en pie donde se levantaron, y los haida han decidido dejar que vuelvan poco a poco al bosque en lugar de llev\u00e1rselos. El sitio fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1981, y en verano lo cuidan los guardianes haida.
