Con los siglos pas\u00f3 de ser un fuerte sencillo a una residencia real, y hoy es el mayor edificio medieval conservado de Finlandia. Turku es la ciudad m\u00e1s antigua del pa\u00eds y fue su capital hasta 1812, cuando los gobernantes rusos la trasladaron a Helsinki. El castillo sufri\u00f3 graves da\u00f1os en un bombardeo en 1941 y desde entonces se ha restaurado como museo.
