Gran parte de su centro lo dise\u00f1\u00f3 el arquitecto Jo\u017ee Ple\u010dnik en el siglo XX, autor de sus puentes, muelles y mercado. Tras un terremoto en 1895, muchos edificios se reconstruyeron en estilo modernista, y desde 2007 el centro hist\u00f3rico est\u00e1 cerrado a los coches. El drag\u00f3n del escudo de la ciudad recuerda la leyenda de Jas\u00f3n y los argonautas, que seg\u00fan se dice pasaron por aqu\u00ed.
