El primer castillo se construy\u00f3 aqu\u00ed en el siglo XIII. En 1719, durante un levantamiento jacobita, los buques del gobierno lo bombardearon y fue volado, y durante dos siglos solo quedaron ruinas. Entre 1912 y 1932, el teniente coronel John MacRae-Gilstrap lo reconstruy\u00f3 a partir de planos antiguos, con el puente de piedra en arcos que lleva hoy a \u00e9l.
