Tras m\u00e1s de un siglo de calma despert\u00f3 en 2010, y en los a\u00f1os siguientes sus nubes de ceniza llegaron a veces hasta San Jos\u00e9 y cerraron el aeropuerto. En sus laderas hay lecher\u00edas y bosque nuboso, y la ciudad de Turrialba, m\u00e1s abajo, es conocida por su queso y por el rafting en los r\u00edos cercanos.
