Son antiguos arrecifes de coral elevados sobre el mar, y en la l\u00ednea del agua las olas, los erizos y otros peque\u00f1os animales van comiendo la roca, lo que da a muchas islas forma de seta. En 2012 la laguna sur de las Islas de la Roca fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
