Los ingleses construyeron aqu\u00ed el primer fuerte en la d\u00e9cada de 1650, y en 1667 una flota holandesa al mando de Abraham Crijnssen lo tom\u00f3 y le dio el nombre de la provincia neerlandesa de Zelanda. Ese mismo a\u00f1o, en el tratado de paz con Inglaterra, los holandeses se quedaron con Surinam e Inglaterra con Nueva \u00c1msterdam, la actual Nueva York. El fuerte, de cinco puntas, alberga hoy el Museo de Surinam.
