Los antiguos egipcios y el pueblo de Kush cre\u00edan que era la morada del dios Am\u00f3n, y construyeron grandes templos a sus pies. En la ladera de al lado se alza un grupo de pir\u00e1mides empinadas, tumbas de reyes y reinas kushitas de Napata. Jebel Barkal y los sitios de la regi\u00f3n napatea son Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO.
