About Sunrise over Haleakalā Crater, Maui

Haleakalā, the great volcano that forms most of east Maui, rises 3,055 metres above the sea. At its summit lies a huge valley, often called a crater, dotted with red and grey cinder cones. Its name means house of the sun: in legend the demigod Māui climbed it to lasso the sun and slow its path across the sky. Many visitors drive up in the dark to watch the sunrise from the rim.

Puzzle tip: the glowing horizon is the brightest part; the red and brown slopes need patience.
