About Beach and Lava Rock on the Kona Coast, Hawaiʻi

North of Kailua-Kona, the west coast of the island of Hawaiʻi is a wide landscape of black lava fields that flowed down from the volcano Hualālai. Hidden among them are small beaches of white sand and bright turquoise water, several of them protected in Kekaha Kai State Park, such as Maniniʻōwali, also known as Kua Bay. The contrast between the dark rock and the pale water makes this coast one of the most striking in Hawaii.

Puzzle tip: the black lava and the turquoise water are easy to separate; the white sand links them.
