About Rocky Shore of Snake Island, Brazil

Granite rocks ring Snake Island, rising from the Atlantic to a cover of forest and grassland. The island was once joined to the mainland; when the sea rose at the end of the last ice age it was cut off, and the snakes living there were left to evolve on their own. With no small mammals to hunt, the golden lanceheads came to feed on the migrating birds that rest in the island's trees.

Puzzle tip: the white surf along the rocks traces the outline; the forest has many shades of green to tell apart.
