About Red Cliffs at Sunrise, Zion

Early morning light makes the cliffs of Zion National Park glow deep orange and red. The colour comes from iron oxides in the sandstone; where water has washed the iron away, the rock is pale cream or white. The park lies where the Colorado Plateau, the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert meet, so it has an unusual mix of plants and animals, from cacti to cottonwoods and from desert bighorn sheep to California condors. In this view the lit peaks rise above green trees and a weathered fallen tree.

Puzzle tip: build the glowing red peaks first, then the green trees, and leave the dry grass and fallen tree for last.
