About Turquoise Lake and Wildflowers, Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park in Montana protects a wild part of the Rocky Mountains along the Canadian border, often called the Crown of the Continent. Its lakes get their milky turquoise colour from rock flour, rock ground as fine as dust by the glaciers and carried down by meltwater. When sunlight hits the tiny particles in the water, they reflect blues and greens. Summer brings wildflowers to the mountain meadows. In this photo purple flowers and green leaves fill the foreground above a bright turquoise lake and steep peaks.

Puzzle tip: begin with the turquoise lake, then the grey peaks above it, and finish with the purple flowers and green leaves.
