About Durbar Square Temples, Kathmandu Valley

The Kathmandu Valley was once divided into three small kingdoms, Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, and each built a Durbar Square in front of its royal palace. These squares are crowded with pagoda-style temples, shrines and stone statues, many built by Newar craftsmen between the 15th and 18th centuries. Several were damaged in the 2015 earthquake and have been carefully restored.

Puzzle tip: the tiered temple roofs are the landmark; the square and the people come next.
