About Laughing Kookaburra

The laughing kookaburra is famous for its loud call, which sounds like a burst of human laughter and is often heard at dawn and dusk. It is one of the largest kingfishers in the world, but it rarely eats fish: it catches insects, lizards and even snakes. This one was photographed perched on a birdbath at Sanctuary Point, on the south coast of New South Wales.

Puzzle tip: the white head and dark eye stripe are the key; the green leaves come last.
