About Mont-Saint-Michel and the Tidal Channels

Mont-Saint-Michel is a rocky island in a wide bay between Normandy and Brittany, crowned by a Benedictine abbey. Legend says the archangel Michael appeared to the bishop of nearby Avranches in 708 and asked for a church to be built on the rock. The tides in the bay are among the strongest in Europe, and at low tide the sea retreats for kilometres, leaving sand and winding channels. In this photo one of those channels snakes through the salt meadows towards the island under a pink and blue sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the island and its abbey, then the green banks of the channel, and finish with the water and the sky.
