About The Pont Saint-Bénézet over the Rhône, Avignon

The Pont Saint-Bénézet in Avignon was built in the late twelfth century across the wide river Rhône. Legend says a young shepherd named Bénézet was told by angels to build it and proved his mission by lifting a huge stone. The bridge once had about twenty-two arches, but the floods of the Rhône kept breaking it, and in the seventeenth century it was finally abandoned; only four arches remain. It is famous all over the world from the children's song Sur le pont d'Avignon. On one of its piers stands the small Chapel of Saint Nicholas, seen here against a deep blue sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the chapel on the pier, then the stone arches, and finish with the blue water and the sky.
