Barcelona is the city of Antoni Gaudí, whose basilica of the Sagrada Família has been under construction since 1882 and whose Park Güell is decorated with colourful broken-tile mosaics. From the hills of Montjuïc and Tibidabo you can look out over the grid of the Eixample district and the city's beaches.
Madrid, the capital, stands at the centre of the country. Its Royal Palace is one of the largest in Europe, the arcaded Plaza Mayor has been a meeting place for four centuries, and the grand Gran Vía is lined with theatres. Off the coast, Ibiza offers quiet coves such as Cala d'Hort, facing the rocky islet of Es Vedrà.
