About Malbork Castle

Malbork Castle was begun in the late 13th century by the Teutonic Knights, a German order of crusader monks, and from 1309 it was the seat of their Grand Master. Built almost entirely of red brick, it is the largest castle in the world by the area it covers. In 1457 the knights lost it to the King of Poland, and it remained a royal residence for centuries. Badly damaged in 1945, the castle has been patiently restored and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Puzzle tip: the tall tower with its flag is the key piece; the red brick walls are best sorted by their light and shade.
