About Morskie Oko, Tatra Mountains

Morskie Oko is the largest lake in the Tatra Mountains, lying at about 1,395 metres in Tatra National Park, near the town of Zakopane. Its name means "Eye of the Sea", from an old legend that the lake was joined to the sea by an underground passage. The road to the lake is closed to cars, so visitors walk or ride a horse-drawn cart for the last few kilometres. Above it, a steep path climbs to a second lake, the Black Pond, and on to Rysy, the highest peak in Poland.

Puzzle tip: the snowy peaks and the sky are the easiest part; the dark green water and the forest need more patience.
