About Arcaded Houses of Zamość

Zamość, in south-eastern Poland, was built from scratch as an ideal town. In 1580 the chancellor Jan Zamoyski founded it, and the Italian architect Bernardo Morando laid it out on a regular plan within star-shaped walls. At its heart is the Great Market Square, a hundred metres on each side, with a tall town hall reached by a fan-shaped staircase. Around the square, Renaissance houses with arcades on the ground floor are painted in yellow, green, red and blue, and many have carved decorations. The town has been a World Heritage Site since 1992.

Puzzle tip: start with the arches along the bottom and the coloured fronts above them; the sky comes last.
