About Delicate Arch at Sunset, Arches National Park

Arches National Park, near Moab in Utah, has more than 2,000 natural stone arches, the greatest concentration of them anywhere in the world. They form as water and ice widen cracks in the red Entrada Sandstone, until thin rock walls called fins break through. Delicate Arch, about 16 metres tall, stands alone on the edge of a slickrock bowl and appears on Utah licence plates. A trail of about 2.5 kilometres climbs to it. In this photo the arch glows orange at sunset, with the La Sal Mountains in the distance.

Puzzle tip: start with the outline of the arch against the sky, then sort the smooth rock by its orange and red shades.
