About Canal Houses of Bruges

The canals of Bruges, called reien in Dutch, wind through the old town between brick houses with stepped gables, which is why the city is often called the Venice of the North. In the Middle Ages, boats carried wool, cloth and spices along these waterways, and Bruges hosted one of the first stock exchanges in Europe. Today small tour boats glide under its low stone bridges. The city is also known for its lace makers, its chocolate shops and the quiet Beguinage, a walled courtyard where religious women once lived.

Puzzle tip: the white house in the middle is a good starting point; the stepped gables help to fit the rooftops together.
