About Karst Mountains at Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng is a town in central Laos, set among steep limestone hills along the Nam Song River. The mountains formed over a very long period as water wore away the rock, leaving cliffs, caves and narrow valleys. The area is also known for rice fields and small villages between the hills. In this photograph, wooden buildings sit below the karst peaks, giving a sense of scale to the landscape. Their straight lines make a good starting point before you tackle the layered slopes and mist.

Puzzle tip: assemble the wooden buildings first, then follow the outlines of the peaks through the mist.
