About Kul Sharif Mosque, Kazan

Kul Sharif Mosque stands inside the Kazan Kremlin in the capital of Tatarstan. The present building opened in 2005 on a site associated with an earlier mosque destroyed during the sixteenth-century conquest of Kazan. Its white walls, blue domes and tall minarets make it one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. This photograph brings the main building and its towers together beneath a cloudy sky. Start with the clear edges of the minarets, then separate the pale stone from the different blues of the roof and sky.

Puzzle tip: build the minarets and blue domes first, then sort the white walls from the clouds.
