About Thousand Islands from the Air, Ontario

The Thousand Islands are a chain of 1,864 islands in the St. Lawrence River where it flows out of Lake Ontario, along the border between Canada and the United States. To count as an island, a piece of land must stay above water all year and carry at least one tree. Some islands hold grand summer houses built by wealthy families in the Gilded Age; others are just a rock and a pine. Thousand Islands National Park, created in 1904, protects many of them. This aerial photo shows green islands scattered across the blue river.

Puzzle tip: start with the green islands one by one, then fill the blue water between them.
