About Pine Island in the Thousand Islands

The islands of the Thousand Islands are the worn-down tops of ancient granite hills, part of the Frontenac Arch, which links the Canadian Shield with the Adirondack Mountains. Pines, oaks and maples grow from cracks in the pink and grey rock. In summer the channels between the islands are busy with sailing boats, kayaks and tour boats, and many islands can only be reached by water. The area gave its name to Thousand Island salad dressing. In this photo a small rocky island with tall pines rises from clear blue water.

Puzzle tip: start with the pine trees and their dark shapes, then the rocky shore, and finish with the water and sky.
