About Pumpkins and Gourds in Ashton, South Africa

Ashton is a small town in the Breede River valley of the Western Cape, on the scenic Route 62 between Cape Town and the Little Karoo. Orchards and vineyards surround it, and the town is known for its large fruit canning factories. In the southern hemisphere the seasons are reversed, so pumpkins are harvested from about March to May. Pumpkin is a favourite in South African cooking, from soup to sweet pumpkin fritters. This photo shows a colourful display of pumpkins and gourds in Ashton.

Puzzle tip: sort the pieces by colour first: orange, green, yellow and white, then fit the pumpkins together one by one.
