About Bahrain Fort, Qal’at al-Bahrain

Qal'at al-Bahrain stands on a mound about 12 metres high on the north coast of Bahrain. The mound is a tell, built up by layer after layer of settlements from about 2300 BC until the 16th century. For much of that time it was the capital of Dilmun, an ancient trading civilisation that linked Mesopotamia with the Indus Valley. The stone fort on top was built by the Portuguese, who held Bahrain in the 16th century. The site has been a World Heritage Site since 2005.

Puzzle tip: the fort walls have strong shadows that help to place them; the sandy ground and the sky need more time.
