About Areia Branca Beach, Dili

Areia Branca, Portuguese for "White Sand", is a beach on the eastern edge of Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, where green hills slope down to calm turquoise water. Timor-Leste occupies the eastern half of the island of Timor, north of Australia. It was a Portuguese colony for about four centuries, then was occupied by Indonesia from 1975, and became independent in 2002. Portuguese and Tetum are its official languages. The waters off Dili are part of the Coral Triangle, one of the richest marine areas on Earth.

Puzzle tip: the green hills and the bright water are easy to tell apart; the sky and the sand come last.
