About Plaza Mayor, Madrid

The Plaza Mayor is the great rectangular square at the heart of old Madrid, surrounded by red buildings with more than 200 balconies. Finished in 1619, it has hosted markets, bullfights, coronations and even public executions. In the middle stands a bronze statue of King Philip III on horseback, and every December the square fills with a traditional Christmas market.

Puzzle tip: the statue in the middle and the twin towers are good starting points; the balconies need patience.
