About Stone Jetty on the Coast of Abidjan

Abidjan, the largest city of Ivory Coast, grew up around the Ébrié Lagoon, which is cut off from the ocean by a long bar of sand. In 1950 the Vridi Canal was dug through the sand to let ships in, and Abidjan became one of the busiest ports in West Africa. Along this coast, walls of stone run out into the sea to hold back the waves and the drifting sand. This aerial photo shows such a jetty, with turquoise water on one side and white surf on the other.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale stone jetty, then the white surf, and fill in the blue and turquoise water last.
