About Ankole Cattle in a Mundari Camp

The Ankole cattle of East Africa, with their enormous curved horns, are one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world. The horns are not only for show: they are full of blood vessels and help the animals lose heat in the hot climate. In the cattle camps of the Mundari in South Sudan, each animal has its own name, and herders compose songs about their favourite bulls. This photo shows a long-horned cow standing among the smoke of the camp, lit by the low sun.

Puzzle tip: start with the cow and its long horns, then the other cattle and the smoke, and the blue sky last.
