About Cape Khoboy, Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal

Cape Khoboy is the northern tip of Olkhon, the largest island in Lake Baikal, where steep pale cliffs drop into the open water. Its name comes from a Buryat word meaning 'fang', after a tall pointed rock at its end. From the cape you look out over the widest part of the lake, which is about 80 kilometres across. Baikal's water is so clear that in places you can see stones on the bottom 40 metres down, and in winter its ice grows thick enough for cars to drive on.

Puzzle tip: the light cliffs and the green slope above them are easiest; the wide blue water takes the longest.
