About Château de Chenonceau over the River Cher

Château de Chenonceau is famous for the way it crosses the river Cher on a row of arches. It is often called the Ladies' Château, because women shaped it: Katherine Briçonnet oversaw its building in the 1510s, Diane de Poitiers, the favourite of King Henry II, added the bridge, and Catherine de' Medici built the long two-storey gallery on top of it. During the Second World War the river marked the line between occupied and free France, and the gallery helped people cross. Here the white château and its arches are reflected in calm water.

Puzzle tip: start with the arches and the dark roofs, then the white walls, and finish with the reflection and the blue sky.
