About Lerwick Harbour, Shetland

Lerwick, the capital of Shetland, is the most northerly town in Britain, and it lies closer to Bergen in Norway than to Edinburgh. The islands were Norse for six centuries, and many place names, words and family names still come from Old Norse. On the last Tuesday of January the town holds Up Helly Aa, a fire festival in which a squad dressed as Vikings marches through the streets with burning torches and set fire to a full-size Viking galley. This photo shows the grey stone houses along the waterfront, with boats crossing the harbour under a cloudy sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the stone houses along the shore, then the boats and their wakes, and the sky with sunlight breaking through.
