About Giraffe in Zakouma National Park

Zakouma National Park in southeastern Chad is one of the great conservation success stories of Africa. Poachers killed most of its elephants in the early 2000s, but since 2010 rangers have protected the park so well that the herds are growing again, and rare Kordofan giraffes, lions, buffalo and huge flocks of birds live here. In the dry season the animals gather around the remaining pools in the wooded savanna. This photo shows a giraffe walking through the dry grass among acacia trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the giraffe and its patterned coat, then the trees around it, and the dry grass and the pale sky last.
