About Half Dome above the Pines, Yosemite

Half Dome rises about 1,400 metres above the floor of Yosemite Valley and has become the symbol of the park. Its rounded back and sheer north-west face were shaped as the granite peeled away in layers, a process called exfoliation, and glaciers later cleared the loose rock below. Hikers can reach the summit on a long day trail that ends with a steep climb between steel cables. In this view the dome stands above a dark line of pines and a grassy meadow under a blue sky with white clouds.

Puzzle tip: begin with the grey dome and the clouds, then work along the dark line of pines and finish with the meadow.
