About Hoia-Baciu Forest in Autumn, near Cluj-Napoca

Hoia-Baciu Forest covers a hill on the western edge of Cluj-Napoca, in Transylvania, Romania. Its oaks and beeches grow in oddly bent and twisted shapes, and in the middle there is an almost round clearing where few trees grow. Since a local biologist published photos in 1968 that he said showed a strange flying object over the forest, it has been called one of the most mysterious forests in the world, and many ghost stories are told about it. For the people of Cluj it is also simply a place for walks and cycling. In this photo crooked trunks rise from a carpet of brown leaves.

Puzzle tip: the dark, bent trunks are the best place to start; the brown leaves on the ground come last.
