About Corvin Castle, Hunedoara

Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, in western Transylvania, is one of the largest Gothic castles in Europe. John Hunyadi, a great fifteenth-century military leader, turned an older fort on this rock into a grand residence, and later owners added Renaissance halls. A local legend says that Vlad the Impaler, whose name inspired Dracula, was once held prisoner here, though historians doubt it. The castle is reached by a long wooden bridge on tall stone pillars, seen here in front of its towers and red roofs.

Puzzle tip: start with the wooden bridge and its pillars, then build the towers and roofs, and leave the sky for last.
