About Al Zubarah Fort

Al Zubarah Fort stands in the desert of north-western Qatar. It was built in 1938 under Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani as a border post and later served as a police station before becoming a museum. Nearby lie the ruins of the town of Al Zubarah, one of the great pearling and trading ports of the Gulf in the 18th and 19th centuries, which was abandoned in the early 20th century. The archaeological site became Qatar's first World Heritage Site in 2013. The fort has thick walls and four corner towers, three of them round.

Puzzle tip: the towers and walls are clear against the sky; the flat sand in front is best sorted by its light.
