About Kutlug Timur Minaret, Konye-Urgench

Konye-Urgench, in the north of Turkmenistan near the Amu Darya River, was once the capital of Khwarezm, a rich Silk Road state. It was destroyed by the Mongols in 1221, rebuilt, and destroyed again by Timur in 1388, after which the river changed course and the city was left behind. Its most striking survivor is the Kutlug Timur Minaret, built in the 14th century, about 60 metres tall and decorated with bands of patterned brick. The site has been a World Heritage Site since 2005.

Puzzle tip: the minaret is the clear centre of the picture; the open ground and the sky go together last.
