About Lauterbrunnen Valley and the Swiss Flag

The Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Bernese Oberland is a deep, U-shaped valley carved by glaciers, with sheer rock walls several hundred metres high. More than 70 waterfalls pour over its cliffs, among them the Staubbach Falls, which drop about 300 metres beside the village. The writer J. R. R. Tolkien hiked here in 1911, and the valley is often said to have inspired his elven Rivendell. The square red flag with its white cross is one of only two square national flags in the world.

Puzzle tip: the red flag is the easiest piece to find; the tall grey cliffs and the green valley floor come next.
