About Long-Horned Cattle of the Mundari, Terekeka

The Ankole cattle of the Mundari have some of the largest horns of any cattle in the world, curving up in great lyre shapes that can be more than two metres from tip to tip. For the Mundari, cattle are wealth, food and a measure of a family's standing: they are rarely killed for meat, but give milk, and are exchanged as bride wealth when people marry. Young men sleep in the camps to guard the herds. This photo shows cattle with huge horns standing in the dusty camp near Terekeka.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale cattle and their long horns, then the people and the trees, and the dusty air last.
